SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Video shot by NewsChannel 9 during Sunday’s Women’s Day rally shows a black pickup truck revving its engine, smoking out demonstrators, as they rallied for women’s rights and democracy. Our crew was there as a crowd surrounded the vehicle on Hiawatha Boulevard. One woman stood in front of the truck, just outside Destiny USA. While we do not know what led up to this scene or if the man was provoked, we could see the black pick-up truck revving its engine, smoking out demonstrators on the other side of the road. As people surrounded him, one woman stood in front of his truck, trying to block him from leaving. The driver yelled at her to move. He then got out and continued to yell. Then the driver tried to reverse but pulled forward instead. Seconds later, in a close call, he nearly hit that woman trying to stop him from leaving. The young man got out again, yelled at demonstrators, and sped off. Syracuse police say they found the pick-up truck driver nearby — he said he was driving through the area when protesters surrounded his pick-up — and hit the car with their signs. Police took his statement, but as of this morning, it does not appear that any charges have been filed.
