CNN Reports Michael J. Fox Is Dead, And He Respectfully Disagrees

Michael J. Fox is alive and well, and wants everyone to know it ― especially CNN. On Wednesday, the network shared a video titled “Remembering the life of actor Michael J. Fox” that paid tribute to Fox’s acting career and his work fighting Parkinson’s and promoting stem cell research. There was just one issue: The 64-year-old is still very much alive. In fact, he appeared at PaleyFest in Los Angeles on Tuesday to help promote the just-wrapped third season of the Apple TV series “Shrinking.” Fox will play a man with Parkinson’s who bonds with series star Harrison Ford, whose character also has the disease. A CNN spokesperson later told news outlets that “the package was published in error; we have removed it from our platforms” and said that the network sends “apologies to Michael J. Fox and his family.” Still, Fox felt obliged to address the issue of his so-called death on Wednesday with a post on Threads. It was pointed, dark and hilarious. “How do you react when you turn on the TV and CNN is reporting your death?” he asked, before providing possible options. “Do you…A) switch to MNSBC, or whatever they are calling themselves these days, (B) Pour scolding hot water on your lap, if it hurts your fine, (C) Call your wife, hopefully she’s concerned but reassuring, (D) Relax, they do this once every year, (E) Ask yourself wtf ?” he wondered. He then added, “I thought the world was ending, but apparently it’s just me and I’m ok. Love, Mike.” Fox isn’t the first famous person who has had to deal with a death announcement while they were still alive. In 1897, author Mark Twain responded to rumors that he had died in both London and New York by noting, “The report of my death was an exaggeration.” After “People” magazine reported in 1982 that TV star Abe Vigoda was deceased, the “Barney Miller” actor responded by posing for a photo in a coffin with the magazine. He was plagued by premature death announcements for the next few decades until his death in 2016 at the age of 94. Back in 2009, a spoof website reported that Jeff Goldblum had died after falling off a cliff in New Zealand. He reacted by going on “The Colbert Report” and eulogizing himself. “No one will miss Jeff Goldblum more than me. He was not only a friend and mentor, but he was also me,” he said.
