Let us handle your packing list so you can concentrate on snagging that Guinness storehouse tour reservation. I have a whole TikTok collection dedicated to all the things I'm going to do on my next trip to the Emerald Isle, but I did cover quite a bit of ground in my few days there. (That's me in Sean's Bar in Althone, which has been in operation since 900 A.D., btw.) There are things I'm grateful I packed and ways I know I'll pack smarter for next time. So I'm sharing all those learnings with you! I experienced a bit of rain and a LOT of wind (despite locals saying I really lucked out with the not-that-rainy weather), so my recommendations are based on things being a bit rainier than when I visited. My trip was also a combo of city and country activities. Yes, I finally nailed splitting the G at THE Temple Bar Pub in Dublin and was nearly brought to tears by a sheepherding dog demo out in the middle of a picturesque valley with NO cell reception. So this list includes planning for both types of settings! If you're just hitting up Dublin during a Europe trip with several stops, I previously covered everything you need for a city vacation (as someone who grew up in a small town, has lived in New York City for 15 years, and visits other cities often). But I've gotta say, you should plan to see some of the country if you can! Postcards just don't compare. If you're covering a lot of area in Ireland, you're going to be in a car or a tour bus awhile, which can be quite draining for your phone. (Trust me, it's worth it.) And if you're just sticking to the cities and public transit, you can't always rely on popping into a coffee shop to charge your phone at an outlet. Besides, that's precious time that you could spend going to the Oscar Wilde House instead! Promising review: "Okay, when I travel, I take a lot of videos and many photos, so it doesn’t take me long to run out or be low on my battery. Recently, I traveled to Hawaii and was able to catch so many shots and videos without the fear of having a dead battery! When you’re flying, travelling around the world, or at different conferences, no need to worry about your battery charge! This device has you covered!" —Shannan C. Get it from Amazon for $20.98 (available in six colors). This will work for a wide range of countries because you shouldn't have to google which adapters you need before every international trip. Invest in this and then know you're good! I also like that you can plug several things into this because there never seems to be an outlet for each of your devices in a hotel room. Promising review: "As an international flight attendant, I am in different countries weekly. While the all-in-one adapters, in theory, are great, they often are too big/heavy to stay in the socket securely — you are much better off with one like this. It is sturdy in the socket, even with an electric cord (my hair curler) and my phone and iPad all plugged in. Very satisfied!" —Susan H. This comes with a case so you don't get caught in a downpour or rushing to buy a last-minute umbrella. It folds up really small but has a 40-inch arc and a 35.4-inch diameter, so enough to cover you while you scurry about on your grand adventure. You need an umbrella for ANY trip, but that especially goes for your Ireland trip! Promising review: "I was traveling to Germany in February and wanted a small umbrella for the trip. This umbrella was in a sturdy case and easily packable. I was very pleased with the quality and usability of this umbrella." —Terri A. Hannan "Great size for travel. Bought for a trip to Ireland and carried in my purse for unexpected rain." —Jodie Wood Get it from Amazon for $14.99+ (available in a range of colors and multipacks). Idk if you've heard this, but it rains quite a bit in Ireland! So you'll need some waterproof shoes. If you wanna go full throttle with these, you CAN wear them on a plane, but they will also be easier to pack in a suitcase than knee-high wellies. Sometimes you're just gonna be in a place where you need rain boots! Promising review: "I brought these to DC for a wet weekend of sightseeing. Though tennis shoes would be the best option for the amount of walking we did, these were suitably comfortable and kept my feet dry for all 7+ miles we walked that day. (Not to mention how absolutely adorable they are!) No blisters, no regrets!" —RT Get them from Amazon for $39.95 (available in women's sizes 6–11 and 16 styles). And check out some similar short rain boots in men's sizes. Check out a TikTok of the portable fan in action. I own this and use it ALL the time, and of course, brought it along for my recent trip to Ireland. Sure, it can get chilly outdoors while walking around exploring. But I found that it can get QUITE toasty indoors, too. So I used a fan when the heat felt like an onslaught and I was on the verge of sweating. It's also great while sitting on a stuffy plane or tour bus. I def got some jealous side-eyes from other passengers as I kept myself cool with this. Get it from Amazon for $14.39+ (available in four colors). This Baggallini bag has RFID-blocking technology; is made of slash-resistant, Securtex anti-theft fabric; and locking zippers that blend in with the backpack's design. Let's make it harder for anyone who gets some (illegal) ideas while you're winding your way down a pub-filled street in Galway. I'm of the opinion that you don't ALWAYS need a backpack for a city outing, but this would especially come in handy if you're doing a day trip via train somewhere! Promising review: "This has great security features. The compartment that holds cards has a locking zipper and sits securely against your back. Two side pockets for water bottle, umbrella, etc. Very roomy and lightweight. I used it this weekend at a tulip festival in Washington. It lightly rained the whole time I was outdoors, and nothing in my bag got wet. It wiped dry easily. A great daypack for adventures!" —pixie Get it from Amazon for $109.99+ (available in 11 colors). If you've been mulling over an anti-theft bag but can't find one you like, consider investing in these cheap clips that make it really tough for pick-pockets. They'll easily attach two zippers and make it extra difficult to quickly zip open. It's that simple! I don't think anyone's going to try and snag your valuables while you're in line for kissing the Blarney Stone. But ya' never know! Promising review: "Perfect for international travel! Easy to use and protected against theft/pickpockets. Used it on my recent trip to Europe!" —Rachel Bristol Get a four-pack from Amazon for $12.99 (available in three color combos). Sometimes (a lot of times), it's just easier to bring a waist bag instead of a purse for your travels. I own this and have brought it on many trips, and have always been glad I did. It'll easily hold an umbrella AND a S'well water bottle at once. I love its built-in card organizer, key leash, and an inner pocket that lays flat against your chest for extra safety (that's where I like to keep my slim wallet). What makes this even better is that you can *also* wear it on your shoulder. I like to switch back and forth between that and across my chest. Psst, if you're worried about sizing, I wear a size L/XL in clothing and with this waist bag, I can confirm that it fit around my waist comfortably without outerwear, across my chest without outerwear, *and* over a thick coat and several layers. Get it from Beis for $58 (available in four colors; note that this *is* final sale, but I really adore this waist bag and prefer it over five others I've tried over the years). If this price is a little too rich for your blood, this $12 Lululemon lookalike is my second fave and I've worn it on many trips! These puppies will help soothe your old dogs after a long (but fulfilling!) day of walking. They're made with Epsom salts, lavender, and peppermint and, becuase they're booties, will force you into kicking back and relaxing a bit after dinner and grabbing a pint at a pub. Yep, it was totally worth it to walk from Dublin Castle to the Guinness Storehouse to Trinity College to see The Book of Kells. But man, you really clocked in some steps today. (Psst, def reserve tickets as soon as you know your schedule for the storehouse and book!) Check out a TikTok of the foot masks in action. Promising review: "Very soothing. My husband and l used these on our European vacation, and they definitely felt good on our feet!" —KS2018 Get a set of three pairs from Amazon for $11.97. Unless you're driving around your party (which is especially brave if you're from the US, given the left-side driving situation), you'll likely clock quite a bit of time traveling in between stops in Ireland, whether it's in a train, tour van, or rental car. I think it's an excellent time to nap! At least, that's what I did during my trip I took with the tour group FTLO, because you can use that time from Galway to the Burren to catch up on some sleep after a long night at the pub. I packed this inflatable pillow that folds down quite flat in my daybag and found it handy. (I prefer to fold it in half and store it flat in my bag vs stuffing it into the little pouch that comes with it, but that's just my personal preference.) And if you're the last person to volunteer to help blow up birthday balloons, no problem here. It's just a single puff to fully inflate this bad boy, and adjusting to the right-for-you firmness is easy with the valve. Promising review: "I ordered this after trying out a memory foam travel pillow and am much happier with this Cabeau inflatable pillow. The memory foam pillows are way too big, heavy, and bulky, not practical for air travel. This inflatable has a cozy washable cover, inflates and deflates easily, fits easily back into the travel pouch, is light-weight and won't take much room in my carry-on bag." —CM Get it from Amazon for $29.99 (available in). And for a travel pillow runner-up, if you have a little more room in your daypack I really also love the scarf-like Trtl pillow for getting some ZZZZZZs while en route to the next fun place. And if you tend to loll your head about while riding on a plane, train, or in a car, try out this eye mask/travel pillow option. They come with a little nub that targets the acupressure point on your wrists meant to help reduce nausea. This'll be great in case you tend to get motion sickness in the back of a tour bus or on a boat ride. Go ahead and sign up for that boat tour of the Cliffs of Moher or that bus excursion to Belfast. Promising review: "FLIGHT ATTENDANT APPROVED! They work. 100% of the time." —Jessica Get a set of two from Amazon for $8.47+ (available in six colors). You can slip this into your day bag or jacket pocket in case you start feeling a bit whoozy. (Sometimes traveling rocks your body in the worst way possible and that should NOT affect your goal of learning how to split the G while on the Emerald Isle. If Dua Lipa can do it, you can too!) Reviewers say it helps with random nausea, motion sickness, morning sickness, and just feeling quite a bit icky. Simply inhale it or rub it on the tip of your nose to enjoy the "I'm feeling better" benefits. Promising review: "Took this on my first cruise. Anytime that I started to feel woozy I’d reach for it. I’m sure the required act of deep breathing helped a lot — and breathing in the fragrance of the essential oil is very calming and effective. Worked for me! Wonderful!" —Willy&Lilly Get a pack of two from Amazon for $12.99 (also available in a pack of four). Sorry but if you don't have a rain jacket, you need one! Even to use at home. It has a detachable hood, adjustable cuffs, and two zippered pockets. Oh, and a little pocket that you can pack it down into and silp into your day bag. I have a very similar one that I packed for my own trip and wore on my tour of The Burren! Promising review: "Absolutely love this jacket! The teal color I personally bought is beautiful and goes with much more than I thought. Love how the neck comes up a bit higher for extra coverage in the rain. And the hood can be rolled up and stowed away so it can be used more as windbreaker also. Provides excellent coverage in the rain. Cannot go wrong with the quality of Columbia!" —Momof3wifeof1:) Get it from Amazon for $58.99+ (available in sizes XS—3X and in 52 colors). If you have a VERY specific vision for what you're going to wear on your trip and are probably going to be a bit stubborn about the whole raincoat thing, you can keep this hood in your bag just in case. OK OK, it'll also work well with a hoodless coat when you want something thicker than your thin raincoat layer. Promising review: "I love this! The quality is very nice and it fits great. Wore it last week in the rain with a coat I love that doesn't have a hood, and it was perfect. It slips right under your jacket so all you see is the hood, so it pretty much blends in with your jacket. Such a great idea! Wish there were more colors and patterns, I'd order more." —Jill Hammel Get it from Amazon for $29 (available in two sizes). Should you invest in an Irish fisherman-style sweater on your journeys? Absolutely! BUT in the meantime, a good layering sweater will make a big difference between shivering while walking around Dublin and pubmaxxing at your perfect temp. I've had this Quince sweater awhile and packed it as one of my essential layers for my Irish adventure. I switched back and forth between that and my beloved What We Do in the Shadows sweatshirt throughout my trip. Here, I'm wearing it with leggings at lunch where I absolutely HOUSED some mussels after visiting the Cliffs of Moher and quite a lot of riding in the back of a tour bus. It also wears beautifully over a dress for a clever travel capsule wardrobe situation. Get it from Quince for $50 (available in women's sizes XS–XL and ). Depending on when you visit and WHERE you visit on the Emerald Isle, that wind and cold can be BITING. I kept a similar Uniqlo heat-tech long-sleeve shirt in my day pack and slipped it on over a T-shirt as needed. (Sadly, Uniqlo just keeps that stuff stocked seasonally, and they're all sold out in April as I write this, or I'd be featuring that shirt instead!) Doing that really saved me and kept me the perfect temp so I could concentrate on watching a sheepdog-herding demo in a picturesque valley instead of shivering and wondering how much longer it was going to take. Promising review: "Got these for a hiking trip in Colorado and they were so perfect I wore them every day and wish I ordered more! I wore them under sweaters for an extra warm layer, and they also looked great worn on their own when it was warmer out. They are also very easy to tuck into leggings without looking bulky and not see-through. I am not usually a big fan of tight long-sleeved shirts as they are usually too tight and restrictive, but these are not restrictive whatsoever and are very stretchy. So comfortable, and super soft." —Andrew & Jessica Pike Get a two-pack from Amazon for $19.99 (available in women's sizes XS–XL and nine color combos). Check out a similar top in women's plus sizes and men's sizes. Leggings for travel? Groundbreaking! But hear me out. I've owned leggings from about every well-known brand, and I think these keep their compression the best after repeated washes. I wore these leggings on a flight and a couple of tour bus days (I wore them so much that I had them laundered at a hotel toward the end of my trip, actually), and the compression kept them *where* I needed them as I was worried about not getting blown over while posing for pics. (Yep, that's me at the Cliffs of Moher!) These are also pretty high-waisted, so it's easy to slip layers on and off as needed without the waistband rolling down and exposing more than you'd like. And if you're still not convinced, my colleague Melanie Aman has been a HUGE fan of the brand's leggings since 2022! I know this story is about Ireland, but I also wore these leggings several times on a 2025 Argentina/Brazil trip! So I'm well on my way to racking up my $1 per wear margin I aim for when buying clothing. Promising review: "Great fit and have held up better than any other brand's leggings. Fits true to size. Perfect for a short girl." —Sarah O. Get them from Girlfriend Collective for $108 (available in sizes XXS–6XL, three inseams, and 14 colors). I think you can't go wrong by bringing a pill organizer on ALL your trips! You can't always rely on a local shop having your preferred painkiller or my-belly-hurts meds. (And when there's a language barrier, it's even harder to ask for something to treat tummy troubles.) I own one of these and never hop on a plane without it. It's saved me so many times! Promising review: "My husband and I travel a lot and take a number of prescription drugs. It was always a hassle accessing our medication when needed, so I purchased this organizer to make things easier. I used a label maker and labeled each little compartment and it has performed wonderfully. I highly recommend this organizer to anyone who travels and needs medications throughout the day." —Jacqueline If you pack any dresses or skirts and plan to wear them without tights, your poor thighs will thank you for bringing some anti-chafing shorts. (It's also worth checking out more anti-chafing options I recently rounded up.) I rarely like to wear pants (but will more often while traveling) so I always pack some shorts like this, which take up very little room but you'll be glad you have 'em on when you're pounding those cobblestones in between sites. After all, strolling around is the best way to get to know a new place! Promising review: "Five star reviews are always suspect, but these slip shorts are wonderful. They keep me cool. Feel like I'm wearing nothing. If you want your overwear to slip and slide, these will do it. I have 10 pairs in my drawer." —JoeNoze Get them from Thigh Society for $44 (available in women's sizes XS/S–5XL/6XL, three lengths, and in 11 colors). If you've never heard of Darn Tough socks, lemme tell you, they are SO good. The Vermont-based brand makes merino wool hiking and lifestyle socks with varying levels of cushioning that are ALSO unconditionally guaranteed for life. So if you ever need a replacement, you can get one for free! I wore a pair on my trip and was so glad that I did because, boy, did I CLOCK some steps. There are so many cute designs, but this pair is neutral enough to go with anything. And the pairs of socks I have wash really well! Promising review: "These socks are soft, comfortable, and warm — and are just the weight I was looking for to wear with my daily wear shoes. The small white dots add a little fun to the socks, even though I generally prefer solid colors." —Joan C. Get them from Darn Tough for $25 (available in three sizes and three colors). Sleeping in a new place can be rough, especially if you found a "conveniently" located room in the Temple Bar area of Dublin...meaning it's going to be LOUD all night. These earplugs come in a compact carrying case and will help block out noise during transit, like when you're near a bachelor party on the plane or a yapper on the tour bus. Better to be prepared! Promising review: "These are my third pair of Loop earplugs. I like using them in the car, on planes, at concerts, in class, and while sleeping. This is my first pair of the silicone ones which were much more comfortable to sleep in which I appreciated. If you are more sensitive to noises, I definitely recommend keeping these on you." —Cash Tieman Get it from Amazon for $24.95 (available in four colors). Check out more Loop earplugs for other uses on Loop's Amazon storefront! Yes, yes, Hokas ARE worth the hype, (check out a full review of Hoka sneakers here!), and if you're unsure of having "good" walking shoes for your trip, these will be worth the investment because it's highly likely that you're going to be walking more on your Ireland trip than you do on a regular day. And when you're back home, you can slip your old dogs into these before you take a few laps at the local park with a friend! Promising reviews: "I have been wearing Clifton 9s for a few years and didn’t think there would be anything better. Wow...the Clifton 10s indeed provide better fit and support. Like other reviews mentioned, the cushion and arch supports are very nice. These fit true to size. Very happy with the new, improved design. Love Hoka." —stylehome Get them from Amazon for $149.95+ (available in sizes 4–12 and six designs) or Nordstrom for $155 (available in sizes 5–12 and 17 designs). If you're doing any hiking on your trip, it's worth packing some hiking boots that, tbh, are cute enough to wear on the plane there and all the time at home! These are true to size (so size up if you're wearing thick socks), have a sealed water-resistant upper, anti-slip rubber lug sole, and temperature-control lining. I was able to navigate The Burren just fine in my Vans Old Skool sneakers, but others in my group were glad to have worn their hiking boots. These'll look especially cute in all your trip-of-a-lifetime pics! Thesus is a mission-driven, Ontario, Canada-based small biz creating outdoor footwear that's easy on the planet, the eyes, and your feet! Their materials are 90% sustainable and traceable — and they're working toward 100%. This brand is all about the details, taking years to develop each collection, and traveling the globe to seek out the best materials for the health of both people and the planet. Promising review: "I took these hiking in the Rockies, and they held up very well. The thicker sole also helped cushion my feet from rocky terrain. They look good too!" —Alice Get them from Thesus for $198 (originally $198; available in EU sizes 36–46 and 14 colors). Sure, you have your dirty clothes bags that came with your fancy suitcase. But they're probably not waterproof. (Neither are those used plastic grocery bags I otherwise swear by for packing shoes. And used ziplock bags probably aren't big enough for your shoes.) Ireland is WET and that means a lot of your stuff might get wet and stay damp by the time you've gotta pack up for your next stop or trip back home. These drawstring bags pack flat when empty and will help keep your wet stuff separate from your clean, dry stuff. AND because they're clear, you'll be able to see what wet things are where. Promising review: "Went on a trip to the Dominican Republic and coming back. My shoes were very muddy, and these bags helped the dirt stay away from my clothes. Will always use these when I’m traveling." —Abraham Fuentes Get five from Amazon for $6.99 (also available in three mostly opaque colors with a clear window, so I rec sticking witht the clear version!). I used this handwarmer to keep myself feeling alive while standing outside for hours in the Icelandic February cold with my eyes peeled for The Northern Lights three years ago. (And yes, I saw them!) A wet, chilly trip to late-September Ireland was FAR less dramatic, but I still packed this handwarmer and kept it in my jacket pocket! I was grateful I packed this because it did help warm up my fingers so I could stand being outdoors a bit longer. I also use it during New York City winters! I keep it in my coat pocket when I leave my apartment, along with my gloves. Psst — you can even use a power bank or your phone to charge it! Yeah, you can buy some one-use hand warmers, but you'll really get your money's worth with one of these. Promising review: "This hand warmer is amazing! My hands are constantly cold, and I've tried all sorts of products to help keep them warm, but nothing has worked until now. I charge the hand warmer every night with a standard USB charger and the next day, I have hours of warmth. The three temperature settings are very helpful — I use the highest setting when I'm outdoors for long periods of time and the lower settings when I'm indoors (e.g., sitting at my desk or in a cold movie theater). I've already given hand warmers as gifts to several cold-handed friends and family members, and they're loving it as well. I hope Ocoopa comes out with a foot warmer next!" —Riva Kupritz Get it from Amazon for $19.52+ (available in nine colors). I always have a few of these on hand (which pack flat in your suitcase), because even on trips that I don't consider "wet," I end up using one. I've brought these to the Blue Lagoon in Iceland, on countless beach days, and even jumped off a boat with this around my neck. After all, you need CONTENT. Even if it's raining while you're posing in front of some magical castle ruins, you still want that pic for the memories! You can catch it all for the 'gram because this'll keep your phone dry *and* let you still use your touchscreen. And they're so affordable that if you get all kinds of dirt (or sunscreen) on one, it's nbd to replace it. It fits any phone up to 100 mm x 170 mm (or about 3.9 inches x 6.7 inches). It also keeps out sand, dirt, and rain. Promising review: "Completely surprised by this product. Bought it for a trip to Ireland and hoped it might work while outside in the rain. Well, this does more than that. The lanyard was handy to wrap around my wrist in places where dropping the phone would be a huge issue. Using the phone while in the case for surfing, pictures, etc., proved to be no problem at all. It was easy to wipe off the case where it got rained on, and the phone took really great pictures without even being able to tell the case was there. This was a great deal, and I'm very pleased. The lock is very secure when closed as well!" —Bernie Get it from Amazon for $7.99 (available in 14 colors). Take it from a naturally curly haired person, it is HUMID in Ireland. I mostly just embraced my natural texture because I didn't want to wake up early to blow out my hair. But if you want to maintain that blowout, this magical potion staves off frizz and gives you a glass-like sheen thanks to its anti-humidity powers. Even in the nastiest of weather. AND it's formulated for its effects to last through several washes. (Something to which I can attest.) So if you want your gorgeous mane to look like its usual self, you'll probably want to snag a travel size of this holy-grail product. Promising review (for pic on the left): "LOVE this product sooooo much! I’m obsessed! I am of mixed race and have very curly frizzy hair naturally. Even with relaxer my hair has always had dry looking frizzy ends. I have tried so many different products but nothing else compares. Best by far!" —Amazon Customer Promising review (for pic on the right): "I NEEDED to try this product after all the positive hype. It certainly did live up to my expectations. I went from balayage to a medium brown color with my hair. The bottom part of my hair was still very porous from the bleaching. After blow drying my hair where the blonde was it was never smooth. Not anymore! My hair is so smooth and healthy looking. I absolutely love this product and I highly recommend it. It has completely transformed my hair." —Lori Get it from Amazon for $14+ (also available for curly hair or extra strength; sulfate-, gluten-, alcohol-, and paraben-free). This makes for a K-beauty sun fix you can safely throw in your bag and then reapply on the go. It has a slightly curved bar for easier application (like in the GIF!) and matte effect, and won't leave a white cast in its wake. You can get sunburned in overcast weather! Don't forget your face SPF, even if that's the only part of your body exposed on your trip. OH, and this is carry on friendly so you don't have to make room for it in your toiletries bag. Check out a TikTok of the Airy Sunstick Smoothing Bar in action. Promising review: "NO WHITE CAST! I've been looking for a stick sunscreen and this was just exactly what was needed!! I'm a medium-toned Black woman and looking for something without a white cast is always a challenge. I have applied it on my bare skin and there isn't a white cast at all! It's a 'soft matte' finish, for sure, and looks like natural skin. Like you're not wearing anything at all." —Martina If you don't already have one, you can buy it now and then basically wear it foreverrrr. It's perfect for dressing in layers, and it's light enough of a layer where you can tie it around your waist at a museum if you don't wanna pay for coat check. I love to pack this and wear it as my on-the-plane coat. And you can even see me wearing my vintage London Fog coat with a pint at the beginning of this story! You're going to get an obscene cost per wear after a few years. Promising review: "This trench coat is well constructed and very high quality. It looks great over formal attire but can also elevate a casual look. It has a slightly loose fit, as expected with this style, but can be cinched with the belt. It’s lightweight, making it ideal for spring or fall. Just enough to cut the chill and keep you dry in the rain, but not overly warm. This is my second LF trench, the first had a plaid flannel lining which — while very soft and pretty — always made me sweat. This one is perfect!!" —Ash Get it from Amazon for $117 (available in sizes 2XS–3X and three colors). * Products I Bring With Me Every Time I Fly, They're That Useful * Travel Products That’ll Have Your Trip Companions Saying, “Woah, They’re A Pro” * Maturing Is Realizing You Really Only Need A Carry-On, And These 28 Travel Products Prove It * Toys And Travel Activities That’ll Help Mute The Incessant “Are We There Yet?” * Flight Attendants Swear By These 27 Travel Products (So You Know They're Worth The Money) * Versatile Travel Pieces That Are Perfect For When You’ve Committed To Packing Light * Products For Anyone Traveling To A Warm Destination In The Near Future * Travel Essentials That'll Make Your Economy Seat Feel Like First Class * Must-Have Items For Your Next Universal Studios Trip Plus, compression socks, travel bags, cosmetic bags, pet carriers, travel-ready sandals, things to pack if you're headed to Hawaii, and finds from Amazon.
