Marjorie Taylor Greene Calls On Trump To Apologize For Latest Stunt

Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on Monday excoriated President Donald Trump for sharing an artificial intelligence-generated image on social media that portrayed him as a Jesus-like figure, denouncing it as “blasphemy” and calling on the president to apologize. Greene joined CNN to discuss the matter on “The Source” with host Kaitlan Collins, who asked if she bought Trump’s excuse that he believed the image portrayed him as a doctor rather than Jesus. “No, absolutely not — I thought that was blasphemy,” Greene replied. “As a Christian, I was very offended,” Greene said. “And a doctor? President Trump is not a doctor, and that picture had him in a robe, as Jesus is often portrayed, with light coming out of his hands, and he talked about healing people, like a Red Cross worker.” She continued, “I think there would be many people that would argue with that, you know, saving lives. So, I think it was blasphemy. I was offended. I think he should apologize, not act defensive. And many Christians across America and the world were very offended by that.” Trump shared an image Sunday depicting himself as a robed Christ-like figure with his healing hand placed on a suffering man as images of everyday Americans — a soldier, a nurse — looked up at him in awe and bald eagles and an American flag flew overhead. Trump later insisted that he thought the image depicted him as a doctor. He and his team have shared many over-the-top AI images in the past, but removed this latest post following widespread backlash, including from many right-wing voices and religious figures. Trump had shared it after slamming Pope Leo XIV amid his calls for peace in the Iran war. Collins noted Greene, who split with Trump last year over his refusal to release all Justice Department files on late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and lack of health care plan alternatives to the GOP’s “big, beautiful bill,” has herself painted Trump as Jesus before. The CNN host played a clip of Greene comparing Trump to Jesus in 2023, when he stood trial for sexual battery and defamation against author and journalist E. Jean Carroll, stating he was among “some of the most incredible people in history being arrested.” Greene at the time listed Nelson Mandela and Jesus as supposed counterparts. “We were talking about people being prosecuted unfairly by weaponization of government, political prosecutions, things that — such as like political protesters,” Greene told Collins, adding: “That’s what I was referring to there. ... I think that was completely different.” Greene added she and Trump have had their “differences” on issues such as U.S. military funding for Israel and his stance on the Epstein files, stating the latter spurred him to call her a “traitor” and warn “he would destroy me and run a primary opponent against me.” “So I think that’s a completely different comparison,” Greene said.
