Jeff Bezos was called out on social media after he delivered some wildly over-the-top praise for President Donald Trump.

“I think he is a more mature, more disciplined version of himself than he was in his first term,” Bezos told CNBC on Wednesday.

“Trump has lots of good ideas. He’s been right about a lot of things. You have to give him credit where credit is due,” he added.

Bezos, who Forbes estimates has a net worth of $272 billion, also said he has worked with presidents of both parties and will continue to do so.

Bezos had a somewhat testy relationship with Trump during his first term in office. Trump frequently attacked the billionaire for reporting in The Washington Post that was critical of him and his administration, given that Bezos owns the newspaper.

But the relationship changed dramatically during the 2024 campaign. Bezos killed the newspaper’s endorsement of then-Vice President Kamala Harris and, after Trump won, spoke glowingly of how much the president had grown.

Amazon, the company Bezos founded, also paid $75 million for the rights to and marketing of a documentary about first lady Melania Trump. The movie made $16 million at the box office.

“I had nothing to do with that,” Bezos insisted in the CNBC interview, but called the investment “a very wise business decision.”

Amazon has also reportedly contributed $1 million to Trump’s inauguration committee and is listed as a contributor to the planned White House ballroom that Trump has obsessed over.

The charm offensive ― and money ― appear to have worked. Earlier this year, Trump praised Bezos for doing “a real job” with The Washington Post.

But Bezos’ claims that Trump has become “more mature,” and “more disciplined,” and was “right about a lot of things” received plenty of attention on social media ― and not because people agreed with him.

Probably the single most embarrassing clip of this entire era https://t.co/EXMLN1iHQG

1. Trump has lots of good ideas" is billionaire-speak for "he is cutting my taxes and regulations."2. It is insane, INSANE, for anyone to claim Trump is "more mature, more disciplined" now when he just the other week posted online 50 times in a span of just 3 overnight hours,… https://t.co/FCy3BzTufA

Pathetic. Not only are these CEOs amoral, they are also just not very smart. https://t.co/3cFEtiDXV2

no sane person can believe thisif Bezos ever had integrity, his riches have destroyed it https://t.co/8XDrLrcHTy

What bubble is Bezos living in? The same bubble that accomplices and supporters of corrupt and violent #Strongmen have always lived in. Sooner rather than later he will have to work harder to inhabit that charmed amoral space. https://t.co/sj5N6psr1E

Given how impressed Bezos is with Trump 2.0 I have an idea for 2029. DOJ targets Amazon & the penis rocket company. Demands $1.776 billion in reparations. Money is distributed Robin Hood style to warehouse workers, friends of POTUS, and Hagiographic documentaries https://t.co/CwX6t885dn

I’m sorry, that’s absurd. By virtually every measure he’s less disciplined and more erratic. https://t.co/EXLSmNjyuo

No people actually think Trump is more disciplined in his second term, so what this actually speaks to is the significantly increased corruption in Trump’s second term, where Bezos feels compelled to praise and flatter Trump or else he’ll use the power of the govt against Bezos. https://t.co/BRfE9EFrdl

Jeff Bezos is the most disappointing of the oligarchs. He didn’t have to go this way but the minute he canceled the Post’s endorsement of Kamala, the die was cast.He is evil. Just like the rest. https://t.co/MLR3IHmwj7

Remember this quote. https://t.co/jS9ZNa08Qn

You'd think that someone this rich wouldn't feel the need to lie for money. But you would be wrong. https://t.co/NC1XMi6ZMV

In this morning's newsletter, I focused on Republican politicians who are suckups. But Bezos is making a strong case that the billionaires are just as bad. Maybe worse, since they won't lose their job if they were to man up and tell the truth. https://t.co/LKcsUalvEA

No, we really don't have to. https://t.co/MiiJqsM5Cl

Disgusting and disgraceful https://t.co/FMGepQP5fB

Every time you lazily order a $39.95 electric toothbrush off Amazon, the profits go to this guy. https://t.co/s5PdwTuWdv
