Community encouraged to use new knife amnesty bin

A new knife amnesty bin placed in a town centre is a "positive step towards keeping our communities safer", a police force has said. Northamptonshire Police said the bin had been installed outside the Methodist Church on School Lane, Kettering, as part of efforts to tackle knife crime. Other amnesty bins are dotted around the county and the force says they are a "secure alternative to disposing of knives in general waste". Sgt Oliver Quinlan: "We want to give everyone a chance to choose safety, so if you or someone you know is worried about carrying a weapon, please use this service." The installation forms part of Northamptonshire Police's support for a national knife crime awareness campaign, which aims to reduce serious violence and encourage safer communities. A separate bin was recently installed at Bellinge Community House on Fieldmill Road, in Northampton, and a further bin next to the DACT building in Daventry. A full list of knife amnesty bin locations is available on the police force's website. Do you have a story suggestion for Northamptonshire? Contact us below.
