Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) accused Medea Benjamin, the co-founder of the activist group CODEPINK, of assaulting her outside the Capitol on Wednesday. But video of the incident painted a very different picture.

“After I questioned Secretary Rubio on Code Pink and their ties to the CCP, their organization followed me out, berated me, and then their head person here in DC smacked me. I will be filing charges,” Luna wrote on X following the incident.

Video of the encounter posted to social media by TMZ showed Benjamin following Luna and questioning her about Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s sanctions against Cuba. At one point, Benjamin’s hand appeared to brush Luna’s arm.

“Wait, you touched me,” Luna said.

Benjamin begins apologizing, claiming the contact was inadvertent.

“It doesn’t matter. You just touched me. You’re gonna walk away right now, or else I’m gonna call Capitol Police,” Luna said.

Benjamin then walked away without further incident:

Luna continued to lob attacks at Benjamin on social media, claiming she “smack(ed)” her arm.

“I couldn’t care less how much random Democrats want to defend what happened. You don’t get to touch me. You don’t get to hit my arm. You don’t get to come to my office and scream and yell. You can hate my politics all you want, but if you touch me, you cross the line,” Luna wrote.

In an interview with TMZ following the incident, Luna claimed she had given statements to the U.S. Capitol Police and expected criminal charges to be filed against Benjamin.

“Ultimately, they (Capitol Police) determine whether or not we can actually press charges, but I think they have more than enough evidence,” Luna said.

Luna added that she thinks “without a doubt” Benjamin will be arrested.

“I’m just glad that there was footage of it, and I think that we have more than enough evidence to hold this person accountable and responsible,” Luna said.

U.S. Capitol Police did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment on the matter, and it is unclear if any charges have been brought against Benjamin stemming from the incident.
