“That was the end of the marriage. That was it. He was done with me then. It was over,” said Sharon.

As a Celebrity Reporter, I cover everything from fashion and award shows to TV, film, and cultural conversations.

Sharon didn’t name her ex, but she was married to film director and producer Michael Greenburg between 1984 and 1990 (separated in 1987), and then journalist Phil Bronstein between 1988 and 2004.

David questioned, “Oh, not that the cancer, if it was true, might kill you?” Sharon replied, “No, no.”

Sharon ultimately didn’t end up undergoing the bilateral mastectomy because her tumors were benign.

“No one deserves that,” one comment read, while someone else said, “Heartbreaking to see that the man you thought cared for you only valued your body.”

“My ex complained in couples therapy about a lack of sex after multiple surgeries to remove cancerous and precancerous cells from my cervix,” one person said, while another person said that her now-ex-partner “ghosted” her after 12 years together while she was recovering from a spinal cord injury. “He didn’t even visit! Told my mom it was all ‘too hard for him’ and vanished,” she shared.

Another user shared, “In my area, women diagnosed with any kind of cancer are given a pamphlet warning about spousal abandonment. Men don't want to care for sick wives and will just leave. One of my patients' husbands gave no warning, seemed supportive, then, overnight, took his stuff and left. Never spoke to her again.”

“My aunt's boyfriend abandoned her when she got a terminal cancer diagnosis. They had been together for like 10 years,” someone wrote.

One more person recalled, “A similar thing happened to my aunt. She was able to get a breast reduction after having back pain from having big breasts almost her whole life. She was like an H cup or something, and even pulled her back at least twice. She got the reduction done, had ten pounds of breast tissue removed, and her husband left because she didn't have huge tits anymore.”
