(NewsNation) — Police have found a body with clothing matching the description of missing South Carolina woman Elena Moore.

Before confirming the woman’s identity, authorities are waiting on coroner verification, according to Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green.

Henry Dukes, a private investigator who had been working to find Moore, said the body was located about an hour into the search Wednesday. “It turned out to be not the outcome that we were all praying for and asking for,” Dukes said on “Jesse Weber Live.”

Authorities say it remains an active investigation and have asked South Carolina Law Enforcement to investigate.

New reporting from TMZ also surfaced Wednesday, citing a claim that Moore told a friend at a brunch on May 31 she was “scared for her life.” The report also said Moore’s behavior at the brunch was unusual, with her repeatedly getting up to look out the window.

Moore was reported missing last week and was last seen at a Planet Fitness in Lexington, South Carolina, on Thursday. Footage placed Moore at a Publix grocery store parking lot around 9:17 p.m. the night she disappeared.

Moore was wearing an olive-green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants at the time of her disappearance. Footage from a Ring doorbell camera a week before Moore‘s disappearance showed her ostensibly confused and attempting to enter a home.

Dukes said the surveillance footage and witness accounts suggested Moore had been experiencing something for an extended period before her disappearance. “There was something going on — it’s not something that had just started,” he said, adding it was “possibly a mental health issue.”

She worked at a CVS and as a bartender at multiple bars in the area. One source told NewsNation Moore had recently been released from a mental health facility before she disappeared. The source also said she had been having relationship issues with her husband.

Moore and her husband, Brannon Slice, have been together for over 13 years and were married in 2024. Slice is the one who reported Moore missing, and police say he is not a person of interest.

Dukes said Moore’s husband remains “very distraught, very upset, very emotional.”
