Jandek Retires From Live Shows

9:22 AM EDT on October 30, 2026

Sadly, there will be no more live performances from the iconic, mysterious avant-garde musician Jandek. Yesterday, his longtime associate and Corwood Coordinator Sheila Smith posted the news via Instagram. The post read:

To everyone who has written to me regarding a Jandek show, thank you. Please be advised that there will be no more Jandek concerts. - Sheila Smith

The enigmatic, trailblazing Houston artist put out records for years, starting in the '70s, before playing his first-ever live show in 2004. Since then, his infrequent appearances have been intimate and frequently incredible, like the one he did in a cave in Upstate New York a couple years ago. The last show he played was Dec. 12, 2025 at the Orange Show in Houston, Texas.
