Michael Moore on Tuesday slammed Democrats and their “so-called ‘opposition party’” as “cowards” and, in the precarious hours before President Donald Trump announced a two-week U.S.-Iran ceasefire, accused them in a Substack post of actually supporting the war.

“The so-called ‘opposition party’ in the U.S. — the party that initiated and continues to enable the genocide in Gaza and whose Senate ‘Leader’ Chuck Schumer taunted Trump last year to be more aggressive with Iran — stands by now and watches this in horror,” he wrote. “Not simply because they are cowards, but because Democratic leadership actually supports this war. NO ONE IS COMING TO SAVE US. WE MUST DO IT OURSELVES. THIS MADNESS MUST STOP.”

Moore went on to urge U.S. military leaders to disobey illegal or immoral orders from Trump, who threatened a “whole civilization will die” if Iran didn’t reopen the Strait of Hormuz by 8 p.m. eastern.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) criticized Trump last year in a social media video for “folding on Iran” and urged, “No side deals.” Trump ordered U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities later that month, famously stating afterwards they were “obliterated.”

Moore linked to the video Tuesday after noting how essential Iran has been to human history, calling it “the cradle of one of the greatest civilizations” that had “already written the world’s first declaration of human rights” while Europeans were still “figuring out how to build a hut.”

“These are the people who gave us algebra, medicine, and the theme song for Game of Thrones,” the filmmaker added. “Despite harsh government crackdowns and censorship today, Iran still produces some of the world’s greatest filmmakers.”

Moore then noted the U.S. has been “meddling” with Iran since 1953, when democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh was overthrown in a CIA-led coup for the apparent “crime” of trying to nationalize Iran’s oil for the benefit of his people.

He wrote, “We supported Saddam Hussein’s Iraq in their brutal decade-long war with Iran in the 1980s, providing him with chemical weapons and other material support. And, yet, our leaders and our media are stupid enough to keep asking questions like ‘why do they hate us?’”

Moore continued, “Hates us?! They don’t hate US! WE HATE THEM! We’re the bad guys! If you didn’t realize that under previous presidents at least Donald Trump has ripped off the mask and show you who we really are!”

The native Michigander on Tuesday, who previously criticized former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris for their role in providing U.S. military aid to Israel amid the genocide in Gaza, called Trump “America’s terrorist Commander-in-Chief.”

He concluded by urging lawmakers to invoke the 25th amendment to remove Trump from office.
