Trump Abruptly Turns On Prominent Anti-Trans Ally In Break We Didn't See Coming

Donald Trump appears to have banished another ally from his orbit because she called him out. The president pulled his signature about-face on former collegiate swimmer Riley Gaines, whose anti-trans-athlete crusade landed her on Fox News frequently ― and by the president’s side when he signed an executive order aiming to bar trans athletes in February 2025. The president praised her for being at the “forefront” of the transgender athlete opposition who was doing a “great job.” The commander in chief pulled a 180 on Monday when CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell asked him if he deleted the widely condemned image he shared of himself as a Christ-like figure over the weekend because of flak from Gaines and other conservatives. “I didn’t listen to Riley Gaines,” he replied. “I’m not a big fan of Riley, actually.” Another MAGA political alliance seemed to bite the dust ― at least from his perspective. Gaines, however, sought redemption from Trump afterward on X. “I love the President and I’m so grateful he’s in the Oval Office,” she wrote. “At the end of the day, I do nothing for the approval of man. Our purpose on this earth is to glorify Him in all we do.” “The truth social post missed the mark,” she continued. “It’s now deleted. Amazing! We’re imperfect people. I know I am. I don’t get my feelings hurt easy and I know with the President it’s really not personal.” Gaines had earlier joined the chorus of condemnation for Trump’s less-than-divine Truth Social fail amid his beef with Pope Leo. “Why?” she wrote. “Seriously, I cannot understand why he’d post this. Is he looking for a response? Does he actually think this? Either way, two things are true. 1) a little humility would serve him well 2) God shall not be mocked.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
